GIANT pumpkins

A Friend and I have decided we want to grow a Giant Atlantic pumpkin as large as we can. Perhaps you all would be interested in the process and progress.

We have preped the soil as best we can in the month or two before the pumpkin will go outside. It will need a runway about 12 feet long and a few feet wide. Pumpkins have vining tendrils that can be buried in soil to grow roots thereby adding a little strength to the whole plant.

I began the journey about a week and a half ago by planting the seeds in four inch pots and keeping them warm and humid. By now the monstrous seedlings have germinated and have begin growing.

With a week of growth they have roots coming out the bottom of the pot and their seedling leaves (I forgot what they are called) have a span of about 5 inches. They will soon be potted into larger containers, then into my friend Kevins back yard.

When the pumpkin is ready we plan to have a party inside of it, then carve it into a boat and raft down the Rio Grande wearing watermelon helmets.

Wish us luck!!

lol, what a plan!! I have a really small yard and have to stick to growing some mini pumpkins for my 4 year old to have. Last year I tried planting them at my father's house, and he apparently neglected them so they didn't make it.

They get up to just above 1000lbs but I am hoping for two or three hundred.

If you have pests, you might need to call an Orkin pest exterminator to help keep your flowers pest free.
