Interesting...it hardly even looks real. Can we see a close-up of the flowers? This will enable us to tell if it is an orchid or not. If it is, I'll be surprised.

Those purple undersides of the leaves make it look like a rhoeo or one of the Tradescantia family. Can't find anything that has mottled leaves tho.

I have one of these little guys. It is not an orchid. I can not remember at this moment what the name is. I have it growing in regular potting soil and it is growing ouside. I actually took a small piece from the mother plant at my mom's, she got it as a gift. I liked the small flowers with the purple.

Don't feel bad. It's still very pretty (and it probably is easier to grow than an orchid). If anyone finds the name can they let me know, as I really like this, I'll try to hunt one up. |

The flowers do look like it's from an aloe type plant. Either way I think it's a very nice looking plant. I'd like to know the name as well. If anyone finds out, let us know!

I found one on Ebay in Aus, and also one from an Ebay store. But there was a warning that all parts of the plant are toxic.

I think tansyflower got the name..........I've had one and can't remember the name to same me. I do, however, know that it is a member of the lily family. Give it a shady location and it goes CRAZY! Al (I thought it was an orchid too when I first got it) |

I know it as Ledebouria socialis, which is a synonym for Scilla violacea. Another common name is Leopard Lily. Here's a link for some info: PlantFiles: Detailed information on Silver Squill, Violet Squill Ledebouria socialis Jeanne |

Just another warning- this guy is toxic!! There is a posting on that link about a cat that went into kidney and liver failure after eating it. That said- I actually bought one last year, although I think it needs potting in a different mix. Mine looks a bit (very) ordinary. I have it put well away from the dogs and kids.
