I'm not entirely sure it's an orchid, but maybe somebody else can identify it. Here's the pic:

I don't know what it is but it sure is pretty. The leaves and the pattern on it is beautiful. I've never seen anything like it before. Now I'm curios too.

Interesting...it hardly even looks real. Can we see a close-up of the flowers? This will enable us to tell if it is an orchid or not. If it is, I'll be surprised.

I am fairly sure that it is not an orchid, but it is very orchid like. Very similar growth and bloom pattern. I agree with Kevin, Only a closeup of the flowers will tell for sure.

How interesting. I like the foliage. It looks like a Maudiae type Paph with pseudobulbs, although that is not what it is.

I am curious to know what it is though.

tyler, you can use the forum code from imageshack, just paste it directly into your message. I don't think the short link works in forums.
After seeing the close-ups, I'm almost certain that the plant is a species of Aloe, not an orchid.

Those purple undersides of the leaves make it look like a rhoeo or one of the Tradescantia family. Can't find anything that has mottled leaves tho.

I have one of these little guys. It is not an orchid. I can not remember at this moment what the name is. I have it growing in regular potting soil and it is growing ouside. I actually took a small piece from the mother plant at my mom's, she got it as a gift. I liked the small flowers with the purple.

Don't feel bad. It's still very pretty (and it probably is easier to grow than an orchid).

If anyone finds the name can they let me know, as I really like this, I'll try to hunt one up.

The flowers do look like it's from an aloe type plant. Either way I think it's a very nice looking plant. I'd like to know the name as well. If anyone finds out, let us know!

Just out of interest.- I found the name of this.

It's called SCILLA VIOLACEA- also called a frog plant.

I found one on Ebay in Aus, and also one from an Ebay store. But there was a warning that all parts of the plant are toxic.

The mottled leaves look like a Psychopsis, but not the flowers. Maybe that's where the salesperson made the mistake? Either way, it's a pretty plant! I love mottled and varigated leaves.

I think tansyflower got the name..........I've had one and can't remember the name to same me. I do, however, know that it is a member of the lily family. Give it a shady location and it goes CRAZY!
Al

(I thought it was an orchid too when I first got it)

I know it as Ledebouria socialis, which is a synonym for Scilla violacea. Another common name is Leopard Lily. Here's a link for some info:

Just another warning- this guy is toxic!! There is a posting on that link about a cat that went into kidney and liver failure after eating it.

That said- I actually bought one last year, although I think it needs potting in a different mix. Mine looks a bit (very) ordinary. I have it put well away from the dogs and kids.
