Something of interest.

A friend gave me this little carnivorus plant awhile back and it works great, the name is Pinguicula "Butterwort" here are some pics of it, in the last one you can see all the insects it caught. He said he keeps them all around his orchid benchs, they really help with the bugs. They like it moist w/rainwater no food and bright light, hope you find this interesting..... Jim.

I love my carnivorous plants. Do you keep your butterwort in water? It almost looks a little dry.

Here are some shots of my butterwort (love the flowers) and my octopus plants.

I've got a pitcher (sp?) plant but dryness is hurting it. I'm trying to tend to it. I've seen some carnivorous plants in the wild in wet lands east of us. I've been wanting to poke around the "cow pond" or mud patch just off our property east of here. I thought I might find something if it is still wet. We are in a drought right now.

Jim - that is a beautiful Ping. Looks a little like my P. sethos. May be one of the parents of my hybrid.

Plucky- Your Ping looks great too. The octopus plants are called Drosera capensis. It is a species. They are also known as sundew's. It is a monster. Looks great. I hope mine will get that full this year.

How sweet! I've seen the foliage, but not the flowers before. The blooms almost look like streptocarpus! Thanks for the pics, all!

I bought a little butterwort plant at Lowes should I leave it in the plastic clear box? I take the lid off but not real sure how to grow it.

Hi Lisa.... I don't know what you mean about the plastic box, if it has holes for drainage it would be OK. They like a lot of good water (rainwater or RO). Don't fertilize it, it gets it's food from the bugs, they like bright light I grow mine w/my plants under fluoresent lights and it does fine, I dont know how big it gets, but it's neat, hope this helps.
...... Jim.

That's so cool. I want to make a carnivorous plant terrarium one day. Very interesting how the bugs just stick to the leaves like that.

Jim... Thank you, I have a few gnats floating around my main growing space and this maybe a perfect solution considering your success. I've spied a few at one of the local shops I frequent and will now be stopping by there 2mrw to pick one up; so you may hear from me with some questions every now and then
