Nepenthes Lady Luck (ampullaria x ventricosa)

I got this little Nepenthes last fall. When it arrived, although it looked healthy enough, it only had a few pitchers on it, and they were each about a half an inch (the leaves were big, maybe 8 inches, so it seemed like the pitchers should be bigger), and pale green with no hint of color at all. They looked nothing like the picture on the website, and nothing like any of the pictures of Lady Luck I could find online, and I kind of wondered if it was even the right plant at all.

I don't expect Nepenthes to do much when they're growing inside my house in the winter, and sure enough it didn't. It grew some nice new leaves, but no pitchers. I put it outside in the spring, and it just went wild, and the new pitchers it grew were everything I had hoped for and more. The plant has two main stems, and it now has several little basal shoots started, and the pitchers are big and the color is excellent. I was a little worried about it when I got it, but I'm very happy with it now. It's just adorable.

That is gorgeous! I gave away a really big pitcher a few years ago and I've regretted that decision many times recently. Might have to get another.

That looks great. I only just took up pitcher plants and I have noticed a decline in flies around the place. I won't grow many but a few to compliment the orchids.

The colour in that one is stunning.

Thanks guys! I would recommend this one. It's a really fast grower for a Nepenthes. All of those pitchers grew just since I put it outside in June, and there's even more on the other side that you can't see in the picture. I've done absolutely nothing to it except water it every day. I had it on my south-facing porch where it gets maybe a little bit of direct sun early in the morning, and then bright shade the rest of the day.

So they need water every single day?

Yes, they like to be constantly wet. When it's 95 degrees outside, they definitely need water every day. If I had it in a bigger pot, it might not need it so often. When it was inside over the winter, I watered it probably every three days.
