Update of plants from the hybrid growing project

There have not been any posts recently on the hybrid project so I thought I would give a quick summary of some of the most popular plants and how the control plants are doing in Florida.

Den Cathy Beck was a blooming fool all summer. Most bloomed 2-3 times and the biggest had 7 flower spikes over 6 months on one pseudobulb.

E. Nursery Rhyme (E. Atroniceum x E. cordigera) - is just putting up the first flower spikes they take a while to develop and as I promised they always seem to be in bloom for Mother's Day.

Naples Nights are spiking again now on larger plants. They doubled in size for me. 5 of 7 are in spike already.

B Little Stars on my mount was not expected to flower until next year but went from one inch plugs to this in 18 months. I can not wait until next year when it will look really good. BTW this plant develops red ting and red spots when the temperatures get cool. About 10 percent of the ones I have developed this 'sun burn' pattern when they were in very low light. You can see it on a couple of the plants and I lost one of the 12 plugs from this. A local nursery with thousands of these also says he sees the 'sun burn' and he is growing them in his darkest greenhouse. This is in December when light levels are the lowest naturally.

I've been waiting for mine to perform! Naples nights bloomed well for me, as did Cathy beck.
I can't wait for E. Nursery Rhyme to spike! My plant looks good, but no sign of "spikage" yet!
The Tolumnia that you sent me with my order, has 2 spikes on it right now! Thanks for the beautiful plants, Jerry!

*Sigh* My Cathy Beck is just growing. No spikes, just grows. Naples Nights also keeps adding leaves to her agenda. My Nursery Rhyme has many new roots a new two new psbulbs! This one I hope will double spike for me. The Tolumnias are spitting roots and growing but no spikes as of yet.

I would not expect anyone to be budding the Encyclia yet that does not live in a climate like Florida. It would definitely like more light when the weather up north would allow it to go outside.

The Naples Nights went from nothing to spiked in only a week so they should be coming for everyone.

Cathy should be quiet for a while now.

Wow they are doing great down there in FLorida! I soo want to move to Florida now! All of my project plantds aren't doing much now. No more new leaves growing on the naples night, the psuedobulbs on the two newer growth are swelling still on the encilcia but no signs of spikes or anything lol, and Cathy Beck is just sitting. She had a whole bunch f growth just before fall but has slowed down alot to a halt. :0

My Cathy Beck is still blooming. I haven't seen the sunburnt pattern on the B Little Stars but it's growing nicely and has lots of new roots. Naples Night hasn't spiked for me yet.

My Sogo Grape is finally in bloom--it seems to have taken forever, but the bloom is worth the wait. My Cathy Beck has got the plumpest pbulbs I have ever seen. She put on a lot of new growth while she was outside, but even though I keep talking to her daily, she just sits there and waits for...who knows what, more light and humidity I guess. For now, she has stalled...
My Little Stars x Makai has the same two leaves it had when I got it--every time it puts out a new growth, it shrivels and falls off. I have repotted her and I just keep hoping that someday she will be like my Blc. Mem. Vida Lee 'Limelight'. This one has at least doubled in size since we started the project, but I have a picture of the bloom sitting in the pot to show the silly plant what it is supposed to do
Boy, am I ready for Spring!!!
