| Yours looks so good and healthy. Mine was huge and have many growths but some of the leaves turned yellow and mushy. I operated ended up with one mounted and one in a pot. So far they are surviving. No blooms though. What kind of light do you give yours? I think I'm having problems due to poor lighting.

| Whoa! That is awesome! Mine is finally doing something, growing a new root and maybe a new growth?

| It was in a southern window with additional light, then I moved it to the quilt room with a western window and additional light. Seems to be doing good!

| Thanks. I think I'll try putting it out doors out of direct light and see. It's just the weather here has been finicky. Summer can't decide to stay or not. We are getting warmer weather again after a few days of chilly wind.

| Under my conditions, which were indoors in winter, and outside with about half sun or a little more in summer, both Little Stars and Maikai set spikes in late summer and bloomed around November. In a greenhouse, they might bloom earlier, or oftener, I don't know. I do know that Maikai can be left outdoors in fall until temps drop to the 40's, and the extra time outdoors increased the number of spikes. The spikes started to develop into blooming within about a week of being brought into the warmth indoors. So they bloomed at the same time (November), but with more spikes and more flowers per spike. BTW, Little Stars is 50% Brassavola nodosa, and 50% Brassavola subulifolia. Maikai is 50% B nodosa and 50% C bowringiana. So your cross is, on average 50% B nodosa, and 25% each B subufolia and C bowringiana. Bowringiana is a once a year fall bloomer. B nodosa can bloom at other times, but peak blooming is in fall. If you can put it outdoors now for at least a couple of months, my guess is it will bloom for you this fall. BTW, spikes can appear with tiny sheaths or sometimes without (maybe a sheath so tiny you don't notice, I'm not sure) Should be a cluster of nodosa-shaped flowers, maybe with dots. | I had expected to have seen more flowers by now. It shows how wrong I was. I checked my photo and found it flowered in December. I love the way digital dates all pictures. I am in the process of producing a spread sheet of the dates of all the flowers I have photographed (over 1000) as a rough guideline. I will let everyone know when it is completed.

| I have Hawaii too and like yours...growing like a weed!! New growths and LOTS of new roots. Like yours...no spikes or indication of spike on either of mine yet...but I think we should begin to see them pretty soon. Solay...this one can take it a bit cool (just like the Brassavola parent). Mine's outside and we've been in the high 50's at night many nights this summer...some even down in the mid-50's. Plus, during the winter my house drops to 55/58 degrees at night and all of my brassavola/B nodosa hybrids still pushed out new growths/roots last winter. They're slower about producing new growth over the winter but does happen. Also...the more light it can get the better....even some direct morning or evening sun is good. ![]()

| My Hawaii is doing well also. I'm glad I saw they bloom in December. I thought I had missed the bloom this year. I bought this from Jerry at the Heathcote Botanical Gardens this spring. He was king enough to mount this for me. ![]() Ellen you can click the (options) just above the Browse Windows
