| Update on Epi. Mabel Kanda, Bc. Little Stars and Blc. Haleahi Sunbow Epi. Mabel Kanda 'Green Leaf', I lost a little leaf of new growth, I touched it and it just fell off! I lost two other leaves on the big growth on the left side. They just turned brown so I cut them off. I think this may be from the scale that was on it. I noticed from looking below where the leaves are that the previous leaves had come off to form the stalk thing (?) so I am wondering if this was just a normal thing that happens. I don't know much about Epi.s. This is my first one. But other than that I think it's doing ok. I made sure there was nor rot or fungus or anything at the base of the leaves. Blc Haleahi Sunbow x C deckeri, This really hasn't done much of anything yet. The new leaves may have grown a little but, I can't really say for sure. It's still alive and looking good though. Bc (Llittle Stars x Maikai) The p/b on the right with the two leaves has 2 new growths on the p/b. I'm not sure if these would be leaves or spikes. Where do they spike from? I know they aren't roots though. They have grown since last Wednesday a little but you still can't see them they are under the sheath a little. I am super excited about this one because if I remember right some of the other members who got them had some difficulties. So far the two leaves on that p/b have grown a little two I think!

| Quote: Can't wait to see it in bloom. The blooms should be beautiful coming from that parentage. I have a B. Little Stars that usually blooms around late Nov. into early Dec. |

| Hmmm....... I hope that is what that is :-)

| These types of Epi now Encyclia form pseudobulbs as they get older. The lower leaves will fall off and an elongated pseudobulb will form

| I need a better camera, I might see if my momma will let me borrow her to see if I can get a good picture of those things.

| Well darn it her good camera is broken :-( So I guess we'll have to wait until they get a little bigger!

| My Epi Mabel Kanda is not doing so hot :-( I lost both the leaves on the new growth yesterday! When I got it I guess I missed a few tiny baby scale bugs and they had gotten pretty big down in between those leaves. It is growing a new root though! On the Bc little stars it has new roots growing now. It got loosened up during waterings so i had to pull some of the mix out and reposition it. It has a new root growing from one of those little mystery growths which haven't progressed any since my last post. Blc. Haleahi Sunbow: I finally repotted this guy. I couldn't keep the bark moist enough and the roots were drying out. Hopefully this will help with new root growth since there will be more moisture. I also picked up another full spectrum lamp today to put on the piano for the catts. These need bright light right? Hopefully between the windows, the fluorescent and that I might get them to bloom this summer.

| The Sunbow may well need more water like you thought. Mine have doubled in size since I sent yours. They are outside in 90+ degrees and getting 2-5 inches of rain a day. It was a very wet June. The Little Stars x Maiki should be growing faster. Possibly the new home has set it back some, if so it will catch up. Here is my control plant. It is one year older. It was the size of yours in January 2007 and here is its growth since. It is in a four inch plastic pot inside the clay slip pot. Look at the growth rate in the last two months.

| Wow Jerry that grew fast in two months! I think it is still readjusting a bit. I think I wasn't watering it enough because the area that it was in was with the larger catts and they weren't getting enough water either. I moved it with the rest of my plants and since I moved it last week that new root has appeared so I think it will start picking up soon.

| Sorry Jerry, but I have to correct you again. This plant is neither an Epidendrum nor an Encycia, rather it is an Epicyclia. Its parents are Epidendrum densiflorum and Encyclia cordigera. The first is a reed-stemmed Epi and the latter an encyclia with pseudobulbs. So this hybrid may not form regular pseudobulobs depending on which parent prevails.

| Here is the new growth and root on the Little Stars x Maiki: I am really happy about this. It looks like what I saw earlier just got stalled from readjusting and is finally catching up now! Hopefully the other will too it's on the other side of the big leaf this one is coming from.
