Source for Sphagnum Moss?

To the Aussies, is there a good source of sphagnum moss in Australia? Just looking at the prices and 3kg's for $105 seems very expensive. Is this normal?

Where can I get some at a more reasonable price? Thanks.

I am finding coconut not quite right for some of my Pleuro's although it is fine for just about everything else.

P.S. Does anyone have objections to mixing sphagnum to Perlite?

hey Bolero you should make a trip to Tassie

last year I had a friend from N.S.W come to the state in a van and he left with 53 large garbage bags full of sphag.

we could not afford the postage or I would send some to you.

sphag is expensive due to the drought plus sphagnum moss is highly protected here now

Have you tried Collectors Corner in Springvale ?

Thanks Fred, I would of course pay for the stuff and the postage if it were to be available. 53 bags? I wish!

I haven't tried Collectors Corner, will check them out and see what they have on offer, I have a few bags of the stuff but it won't be enough now i've decided to reduce my coconut useage.

Thanks for the tip.

I haven't seen bales of sphagnum at Garden World for several years. Mt Beenaks apparently sells Austmoss but I have no idea of prices. Attunga in Dandenong sell wet bales of long fibre Sphagnum for around $50. I couldn't tell you the size off hand, maybe 60L.
