coir ph? Water is too alkaline.

I think I read somewhere that coir has a lower, ie. more acidic ph than other stuff. The PH of my water is about 8, which is too high, I know, but it seems like my plants really like coir. Maybe it is because it has a lower ph than mineral-soaked bark. Does anyone know the ph of common potting materials:
tree fern, coir, fir bark, sphag, etc.
