inspiration from....

I was inspired by Jirel as well as everyone else that has shown their orchids in baskets. This basket is an old basket that my grandmother (passed away some years ago) gave me when I moved into my first home to use in my kitchen. Well to make a long story short, I had no use for it and was about to pack it up when I said why not.....so here is my first basket...I think my grandmother will be smiling considering she was nut about plants like me

I think a plant should grow well in that basket. What species of plant is it? The best plants for planting in baskets and mounting are those that need to dry out within a few hours. Is it that kind of plant? Also when I grow in a basket I use a coarser mix. I hope this is helpful.

It is a vanda. It is a Fuch's Delight seedling actually. I have another one as soon as I find another basket I'll probably do that one too. That was the mix I had it in and I just put it in the basket with it.

I think that's cool! I love the idea! Reminds me of when I was looking with a friend for Orchid pots at the Goodwill and we wound up using all sorts of metal baskets that we found.

I think that is very sweet OrchidGirl. I am in the process of packing up my parents things; it has taken me a year to get to the point of being able to look at their lives in boxes. I am trying to use everything I can in my own home and think I will look a little harder for items to plant my orchids in.

That looks cool. You know the added color gives it some interest even when the plant is not in bloom. I'll have to look twice before I donate stuff to GoodWill. There might be a potential orchid basket or planter mixed in.

The first pic is one of a Catt I rescued for $3 from Lowes. The second is of another baby vanda in another basket that was from my grandmother. The third is of the same one that started it

Thanks Patti. That's my new kitty Brownie. She is about 8 months old now. I actually got her fixed like a week ago. So she's still sort of healing...but she's pretty much back to her normal mischievous self...lol!!
