Repotting? Dividing my miltonia Honolulu?

Hello everyone,

I do have a miltonia Honolulu which I purchased in August 2007 at a show.
She is big (well, at least to me ) There are new growths and I just wonder if I should repot her or even divid her.

Thanks for your feedback

I suggest repotting and not dividing. It's growing into a very nice specimen plant.

Repot it in a pot that's 1-2 inch wider than the current pot.

Thank you arleneg,

ok, I will do so. I have just read Fred's thread on Miltonia. I will try to follow his advices.
This miltonia gives beautiful purple flowers
So I am hoping to see them again

I agree and would not divide. That plant is gorgeous. I agree and would go the next size up. This one is in my wish book

Specimen plants are awesome. Please divide unless room is an issue.

I'll add one more voice to the consensus. I suggest repotting and letting it grow on. The bigger the plant the more flowers.

I am having a bit of dilemma If I take the next size up for the pot, the new bulbs are still sitting just over the edge of the pot...
See simulation pic, I put my plant in a bigger transparent pot...
So I guess, or I use a bigger pot or... I divide. Only exasperatus2002 suggested to divid.
Yes, space in my flat start to be an issue with the orchids... But I can always move 2 of them at my office

Celcat, Read the first sentence of Exasperatus's post--He says specimen plants are awesome. I think he, too, meant to say do not divide.(Correct me, if I am wrong, Exasperatus) It's just a typo...We're all in favor of keeping it in one piece!! It's a really beautiful plant

On a more practical note, I see your problem. Is that pot two inches larger than the one it was previously in? While you don't want to over pot, I think you should be able to have room for at least one more year of good growth..There must be a pot sized to let you have that--Look around and let us know what you decide to do...

Thank you patlee for your help,

It maybe i misunderstood, because of my english... english is not my 1st language and it looks like I still "misanderstand" sometimes

Anyway, this pot was 1inch bigger, so I will use the next size. But, I am not sure it will be much room for next year growth... It looks I will have enough to accommodate the growth for the 5 news pseudobulbs.
Another little worry of mine, the old pseudobulbs at the centre will be pretty much buried after re-potting when the new ones on the edge will be just where they should be. Should I not worry too much about it?

Well I will stand alone and suggest you split it in two it will give you two nice plants and you can remove any old bulbs that are in the middle that will eventual ruin the overall look of the plant

I would re-pot into the pot one inch larger even thought the plant is still growing over the side.

If you go up two inches you risk rotting the plant as it will hold a lot of water and you may lose flowering this year while it grows into the pot.

Use the smaller size and re-pot again after the next blooming. At that time you can judge whether the roots have grown enough to fill the larger pot.

Oncidium Alliance plants can do well in very small pots. I have some plants 20 inches across that are still in 4 inch pots.

I hope in the future, I'm successful enough to see my plants outgrow their pots. I wouldn't think of dividing this one here, just potting up a size. The bigger, the more beautiful a display when it blooms.

Thank you all for your advice,

I did re-pot it in a 2 inches bigger pot a week ago, even though, some of the new bulbs are really on the edge of the pot. But she looks fine so far.
I am hoping she will give some flowers in august... Let's see if I can manage to get her flowering again.
