Repotting a Den. that's potted in soft wood

I have a den that is potted in a single piece of soft wood that is cut end grain. I would like to repot. Is it practical to try to remove the orchid roots from the soft wood?

A lot of dens are potted in coconut husk. The problem is the roots grow in the husk and to remove it will damage a lot of the roots. I have a few that are in the same condition. I found that this will break down very fast and at that time it’s easy to remove most of the husk after soaking it. What wont come off I leave and repot the plant The rest will be removed as it decomposes remember that den's like to be in small pots..

I hate potting dens in coconut husk and remove it.

jbigio's advice is good. Do not worry if you damae some rots they will grow back OK.
