Psychopsis papilio or oncidium psychopsis

I have two different varieties of this orchid that I have seen classified different ways. They are great orchids as once they grow a flower stalk, they will continue to pop out great flowers for years. The two that I have, Oncidium Mariposa ‘Magestic’ and Oncidium Mendenhall ‘Monarch’, both have two flower stalks and a lot of new pseudobulb growth and I think finally need to be repotted. The place I live in is very cool in the winter, any recommendations on potting materials? I was thinking about clay and sphagnum moss or a phaleanopsis mix I got from repotme.com that is a mix of sphagnum moss and materials. I also do not want to sacrifice the flower stalks that have just finally matured.

Psychopsis hate root disturbance, so I highly recommend you repot only when it is making fresh new roots, so any damage/stress is reuced as much as possible.

Thanks for the info Cj. They are both potted in their original mix from the grower - sphagnum moss in plastic pots. One pops right out and the roots on the exterior look very healthy. The moss however looks old.

Oh, that's good. Sphagnum is easy to get off roots without damaging much.
