Water Culture

I was wondering if anyone has heard of 'Water Culture'.

Website: http://www.usapatriotsamerica.com/culture/water.htm

It seems too good to be true.

I am very interested in s/h culture, but I haven't been able to experiment becuase of our winter. So, this weekend will be the first day of Spring! I will be moving some phals to s/h.

Has anyone tried to grow orchids just in water and fertilizer

Hi palito,
Thanks for the link!
The tutorial was very helpful. I think I will stick to s/h culture for the time being.

I started with water culture before I went to the semi-hydro method. It does work.

The problem with water culture is the roots need to be consistently under water since rot can not develop in water. Fungus needs water and AIR to grow). This took constant care.

Also the plants have to be staked in unique ways to keep the plants upright (or you chose a different container size for each plant)

Semi-hydro gave me the best of all worlds.

I read the information on water culture and it sounds very interesting. I would like to know what is semi-hydro and how do you set it up?

If I wanted to try one of my paph's in the semi-hydro how would I do it?

I would also like to try the complete hydro too, it seems like to suceed with that you need to make sure that the roots stay completely covered with water?

Where would I be able to get those pellets?

Thanks for the info.

Hi April,
I have had 20 baby phals and 2 catts in s/h for 3 weeks and they are doing great. They are all sending out new roots and leaves.

Here is the link that is very helpful for s/h culture:
http://www.firstrays.com/

Note: there must be new growth before you switch over to s/h.
Happy growing.
Miki
