Exclamation Shultz Orchid Mix spotted at Big Box store again!

Just wanted to share with everyone that yesterday, I picked up two bags of the Shultz Exotic Potting Medium at "WallyWorld". This mix has been pretty much
MIA in stores for the past 2-3years, with rare bags popping up here and there at ridiculous prices. I saw one site selling it for $30.00 a bag!

Short of making potting medium myself, I really have found success with this medium. I like the fact that every bag that I have bought, was dry and fresh as opposed to going to Lowe's or HD and having to wade through bags of Better-Gro to find that one elusive dry bag, lol!

Not saying that this is the best mix and I am sure that there have been varied results from geek to geek, but my orchids are very happy in the Shultz mix. I am not sure how long the mix has been available(looks like it came in with all of the new garden stuff), but I am happy to see it in the Central Florida area, again! Here's a pic

Happy growing, fellow geeks!

Interesting. I used this mix for several years, although I think it had perlite in it then. Maybe I'm mis-remembering. Anyway, if it is the old quality, it would be a welcome addition to the marketplace.

Thanks for the heads up and you're right I was gone for a very long time. I had contacted the manufacturer a couple years ago and about a year later they emailed me with an up date it was back but I still never saw any anywhere. I like its fast draing chunky mix for chids that need that back when I use to find it. And your right about the stuff at big box stores it horrible sometimes only use that when in a pinch. I try to stock on a bark brand at the nursery and mke my own mixes these days
Thanks for the heads up again

Hope I find Schultz Mix!!

Hey! Thank you for the heads up about Schultz orchid mix! I've never been able to find it.

While doing U.S Census work I spoke with a gent that had a flourishing orchid collection and I asked him what potting medium he used. He stated he used "Schultz" and kicked me out of his house

No, really, he did. But his orchids were fantastic! And I have never been able to find it, and I've had horrible luck with Miracle Grow and never tried Better Gro because I've read it can be moldly. I use moss and my orchids do well but I think some of them could do better with a different media.

This gives me hope!!

Is it hard to find coco husk in your area?? I'm not really fond of "mixes", mostly because I'm cheap enough to make my own in larger quantities - and, I know exactly what's in it.

I wish I could find coco bark chunks in my area. I love how they work but can only use a bit now and then.

I've seen coco husk and coco fibers in the reptile section of pet stores. Have you tried there? That's where I get my cork mounts too.

Here's one site you can get it. No nonsense packaging and the price is ok:

www.calwesttropical.com/

I also get my Seaweed Extract and Orchiata plus other goodies here. I hate paying a fortune for shipping, so I drive about 45 minutes to get there. They also specialize in hydroponics. Kinda like a candy store for orchid buffs.
