Den.antennatum

Well, I thought it was time to repot and divide out one of the compots I received from dounoharm last year. (thanks again Nora!) I had gotten 2 really healthy, good looking compots, and sent one off to Jenny
So here are a few pictures of the 'procedure'.
The spagnum had started to get mushy, was concerned about the roots...but, the roots were in great shape
Replaced the spagnum with coco 'croutons', which had soaked overnite in root stimulator (Rapid Start).....will last longer, without breaking down, and better air circulation.

Hey Joyce, I also availed myself of Gail's generosity and got one of the antennatum compots. They grew so well, I had to separate them a while back too. I've been able to share some and promise some to friends far and wide!

looking great Tony!!
I should have done it a while back too...but...wanted them bigger, in hindsight, will do earlier the next time...would be able to separate more out....but I was thinking a big pot would be better at the time...my first experience and happy I killed none...LOL

Yep, she sent such healthy flasklings that I probably should have separated them sooner than I did. The roots were very tangled when I finally got to it, but also didn't lose one. If they keep growing the way they were, they may be blooming size in 18 months or 2 yrs.
Best,
Tony

Yes, I am getting partial to the babies Emma, although...love when they bloom. I was excited when the baby paph I got 2 yrs ago started to bud....thinking more and more about starting with small ones and watching them grow, as opposed to buying in bloom, or spiking plants....

one of these days i'll get a pic taken of the antennatum babies i kept. they're potted individually (4 of them) and they're ready for even bigger pots already. the biggest will go into a 3 inch pot when i get around to it.

Do you guys find they need to be kept heated? I have some seedlings and I'm wondering if I'll need to bring them inside during winter. I have them in my greenhouse but it doesn't stay too much warmer than the ambient if there's wind.

Dan, Mine are in the 'baby' tent...it is around 72 during the day, and goes to around 68 at night....
I will be moving them to the bigger tent in a few weeks.....that is cooler by 2-4 degrees....
Keep most of my orchids in tents...the house is around 60 degrees during the day and 58 at night....of course feels warm, because outside is like in the teens or 20's.....
sigh...only 3 more months of cold.......
tangers40...can't wait to see the big babies!!!!!!

Dan, the ones I have remaining are in two locations. One is kept in my lanai where it is mid 70's this time of year by day and down to around low 60's at night.. The other is kept in the house and is a bit warmer at night. Both seem fine.
Gail, you Really raised some great little Dens, Thanks again.

Well, it may not be special to you, Gail, but for someone who's tried to raise some flasklings and failed miserably so far. I think you did a fantastic job not only not losing any, but sharing such healthy babies with some of us geeks, so my Thank You remains . Your sharing was most appreciated.
Best,
Tony

here's a quick pic of one of the antennatum babies i kept. it's in a 2.5 inch pot, so you can use that for a size reference. i think it's grown exceptionally well for only being slightly over a year out of flask. when i get motivated, this one and its 3 friends will get potted up...that will make 3 pot-size-ups in a year.
