Reindeer moss/lichen as potting medium?

Cladonia rangiferina
I know some people use it to "dress" a pot I mean put some on the very top to hold in some moisture and make it look nice but can you use it as the whole medium? It seems nice and open to allow air movement. I do wonder however if it would just rot!!

LOL, not one of my best ideas, It's just tempting as it looks so nice but I think it wouldn't last long and so yeah - forget I mentioned it.
