Does Spaghnum moss need sterilizing?

If you just use it fresh from a bag will it not contian spores of fungus or other nasties? Should it be sterilized in some way?

it can contain sporotrichosis spores and it can give you a fungicide resistant skin infection. I am not sure how to properly sterilize it though.

There is no reason to sterilize the moss, hydrate it properly and you will be fine.

If you are worried about sporotrichosis spores, wear latex gloves.

Nice to see you again Stelios.

It just seems strange that something can be taken from the wild somewhere else in the world and then you put it in you plant pots - so it doesnt matter where it comes from? Are other mosses safe then?

Never had any problem with just using it right out of the bag. I only get the New Zealand moss. I've seen similar stuff from Brazil, but New Zealind moss has always worked fine, so I stick to it. No sterilization, just soak it in clean water to hydrate it for use.
