Potting a Maxillaria tenuifolia

I bought a Maxillaria tenuifolia, and would like to repot to a fresh medium.
I checked in the internet a 2 part fir bark or shredded tree fern bark to one part peat moss.

I would like sugestions on other potting mediums.

Your climate is different than my part of the states over here we usually see them potted up in sphag moss. I've never seen that recipe for media for them here not to sure about the peat moss part.
Other more experienced members will be along maybe they know of that recipe. I do know that there is a link on a vendors site on how they pot them up in florida USA at orchidsamore.com.
Good luck

I can't tell you what to use in your growing conditions but the tenuifolia needs constant moisture but they still want air to the roots. I wonder if the peat moss part should be sphag moss. Tree fern used with sphag will give you good moisture but an airy mix.

I have mine in Coco Husk.....it seems to like it well enough. It consistantly blooms right around april every year. I think it would work for you well in PR as well. GL

Thank you all

I would like first to thank you all.

I will check orchidsamore.

Fortunately I have a couple of coconut palms and I will try to use the coconut husk.

prorchid, I noted that your original request for info related to "potting" mediums.

I suggest that you consider a tree fern, pole mount. I have seen several extraordinary plants grown on mounts. I have never seen an extraordinary plant of this species grown in a pot. You live in Puerto Rico - a perfect environment!

GOOD LUCK !

Mounting a Maxi.... hmmm I am tempted to try this! I have a little one (currently in a sphag and bag attempt because it only has one tiny root) and I love hanging orchids, they always seem happier! I had only seen pictures of this plant potted up, does anyone have any pictures of it hanging?
Thanks

I think they need too much moisture to mount. I repotted mine into coco chips last year and it perked up after blooming in hot, dry weather.

Potting Maxillaria

Again thank you all.

Since the orchid is a small one, I'm going to put it in a small plastic pot with coconut husk. When it gets bigger I think I might mount it on a tree fern post.

Again thank you all.

PS You are invited to my albums and see some of my orchids.
