Repot?

Hi!

I seem to have a lot of questions about repotting...

Anyway, when I purchased one of my phals it was so big it was growing lots of roots outside the plastic liner it was in, so I decided to repot it in a larger pot.

I bought a 6" clear plastic orchid pot but when I prepared to repot the phal in there, it was still way too tall. The stem where the new roots were growing was still several inches above the rim of the pot. So, I put it in the largest pot I had (a 6" clay pot), but the plant still is too tall (at least I think it is). I had to pile up bark above the rim of the pot in order to cover the roots.

Should I repot in a taller pot (perhaps w/ an inverted net pot inside to encourage airflow) or should I leave it be?

I think you definitely need something taller maybe you won't even need a net pot in there. looks like you have a ton of happy roots.

I'm thinking you're right. I'm going to go ahead and see what I can find that is taller than the current pot.

And yes, the plant does have lots of healthy roots, for which I am so grateful!

Roots are always a good sign, some of my plants have issues with that.

Is there bare stem on your Phal under the media? If you have a bare stem with no roots, trim the stem off so you can lower the plant in the pot.

Good idea Brooke. I didn't even think of that possibility with all those nice roots.

Brooke, nope there is no bare stem - just a mass of roots.
