Sedirea Japonica question

It's time to repot my Sedirea japonica, and I thought I'd better clear this up before I do it. When I purchased the plant, it was planted high up in the pot with the base of the plant out of the medium. It has grown well this last year but not bloomed; a new leaf is growing now.

Is this high placement the typical treatment for a Sedirea japonica, or should I lower the base of the plant into the medium, as would be done with a phal? When I looked on the OAS website, it didn't mention the high planting position. Here's a slightly blurry pic of the plant in question.

I'm not a sedirea expert, but yes, it is proper culture to place the stem high in the medium just like it is. They are more prone to rot at the base than some phals.

having kept one, they are placed higher than the medium. so when repotting keep the plant elevated over the bark.

great looking plant - hope you see blooms this Dec!
