Repotme is the BEST!!!! I buy most all of my supplies from them...great products and fast, fast shipping. Olive -- whatever you put in a teak/cedar basket...plan on leaving it until the basket falls apart because the roots really dig into the wood and there is no way to remove it w/out doing major damage to the roots. My suggestion...use an inert medium so you don't have break down like you would w/a bark mix this way you can just let it grow until the basket falls apart and then simply plop it into a new basket w/out worrying about root rot.

Thanks Katrina, I was planning to put my Lou Sneary 'Bluebird' in the basket. I have heard of people JUST using the basket, with no medium, but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that. In the case that LECA won't stay in the basket, what medium would you suggest?

IMHO...unless you have LOTS of humidity year round...I wouldn't put the Neostylis in a basket w/out something for extra moisture/humidity around the roots. You could line it w/thin sphag, sheet moss or coco fiber and then use some type of fast draining medium...the LECA would be perfect for that.

Olive, I buy netting at Target and cut it to roughly fit the insides of my wooden baskets. Holds the LECA in but the roots can grow through the holes in the netting.

I have a couple baskets with LECA in them, I cut up a piece of window screen and line the basket with that. I like it because it does not retain moisture, the roots grow right through it and you can hardly see the screening.

Katherine, it's in the section where they sell laundry baskets, clothes hampers, etc. In our store it's next to the area where they sell filters and stuff for vacuum cleaners. The netting is actually a clothes carrier, costs about $2.50 and is big enough to line several baskets. And it's plastic so I wouldn't expect it to rot.

I use repotme.com and Calwesttropical.com a lot. Calwesttropical.com has the better prices for supplies. I just went to their website and they are still very low on inventory of wooden baskets. They told me a few months ago they were waiting on a 'slow boat' to bring them another huge shipment. Usually they have any size and shape there is out there.
