Vanda and basket potting question

Any suggestions on potting a vanda in a basket? IE: what type of basket would work best, any potting medium suggestions... I checked out the AOS on Vanda's so I have a pretty good idea but would also like to defer to the experts!

(For another thread shortly)
I will be posting some pics of a Nobile Den I got for xmas, I have not idea what type and have many questions, it's in bloom and gigantic. . . the flowers are growing out of the body of the cane similar to a post showing a Oriental Smiles...

I'm no expert but I have mine in a square wooden basket, currently with no potting mix. You can get them at Lowe's. Here's a pic (don't be alarmed by the state of my plant. It was a rescue )

I 'pot' my vandas three ways, 1) in a 4" basket with no medium, 2) attached to a long wire alont the axis of the plant and 3)attached to a piece of wood. All three of the methoids are basicly the same but they all work.

Hmmm.. What are your watering requirments for such a setup if you don't mind me asking? I understand were in completly diff zones but...
Why no potting medium?

Thank u for the insight!

In Florida, with the warm weather and high humidity, vandas typically grow outdoors and get hosed down.

I've seen some threads with vandas in pots but most seem to be in baskets with no medium.

Mine are in the wooden or plastic baskets. They need a lot of watering.

you might want to add a little coconut husk or sphag moss to retain moisture if you dont have a lot of time on your hand.

You can use any basket you prefer. A wood basket will hold moisture longer than a plastic vanda basket, the wood will eventually deteriorate but a plastic one is forever.

I use lava rock in my vanda baskets to keep from having to water multiple times a day during the summer. During the winter they get watered when the sun shines. I am in zone 6a, grow in a g/h.
