I have 1 cym right now, with 2 more expected any day. I hve my cym in a clay pot, but with a mix of bark, perlite and charcoal. When you say potting mix, do you mean orchid potting mix, or just regular flower potting mix? I originally repotted in miricle grow's orchid mix and the cym just sat and did nothing. Once I changed mixes, it just took off. there is a thread about this and there are lots of advice on what everyone uses for their cyms.

Hi.
Only problem using clay pot, especially if unglazed is they will dry out rather quickly.
If using regular potting mix as for ordinary garden plants.
It may work!
Too me it would be rather poor drainage material for an orchid that has rather thick roots and likes good drainage.
I would use a regular commercial Cymbidium mix just too be on the safe side.
Best of luck
Ron

I have mine in a clay pot and it works fine for me. I don't know that I would use regular potting mix, I believe cym's need good draining and that is why I switched to the mix I have mine in currently. I'm not good at posting the thread, but I actually had started it. Search for medium for cym's and you should find it.
