Den sphag I'm a worried Mom

I recieved a den-phal type as a gift at least 6 weeks ago. I want to say it's been longer but the plant still has it's original bloom spike with blooms. It is now putting out 2 more. One is 6" long ,the other 4" long. Hopefully I'll have lots more blooms soon. Now to my Question, the plant is in a 3" plastic in a terre cotta pot. It is potted in spagh. I lifted the whole thing out and looked. The spagh is really tight.Takes a while to drain when I dunk it.It worries me? I haven't watered in 2 weeks. I looked a moment ago, spagh is slightly damp still. I have 3 little roots peeking out of the top of the spagh. All my other plants need watering today. Should I let this continue to dry, Go ahead and water ? I even thought about lifting it back out and just putting it directly in the terra cotta pot?Am I just over concerned? The plant looks great but I know when trouble shows it will be downhill fast! Don't want it to get sick now. I'm still in awe at the 2 new spikes. They are my first on any orchid.Only had orchids 3 months.PLEASE ease my mind with some good advice which I will follow to the letter.Plants on covered porch ,50 to 80 humidity, usually a breeze. I live with Galveston Bay a few blocks away in 3 directions.Temps expectred to cool a little mid week. Probably high 70"s. Sorry so long winded. Thanks, Gladys

The longer winded, the better, as we need info to judge what to say. One thing about Dens, they all pretty much can take more water when growing or in bloom, so go ahead and water it. If the terra cotta pot has a hole in the bottom, go ahead and pull the root ball from the plastic pot, flexing the pot usually helps to loosen the roots from the plastic, and slip it into the clay pot. If the pot does not have any holes in the bottom, you will have to find a different clay pot, or just don't move it. Once the flowers are gone, and no new growth has begun, 3 weeks between watering is fine. By the way, these are not cool growers, so you will have to probably bring it into the house pretty soon. Cynthia

Thanks! I feel more at ease now. We had a freak storm today and I stressed all day at work today. Sure enough it got blown over, but all is well, nothing broke. How cool will this plant be safe at? We don't usually get winter till late Dec. Gladys

Well, I don't know what a lower limit is, but I keep my greenhouse bench at 61F. A good investment is a max-min thermometer, and watching the weather report for your area is recommended. Cynthia
