Why I __LOVE__ terracotta pots for Phalaenopsis
Ok, I know I tend to go on and on about how much I like terracotta (clay) pots for Phals. This is a Phal that repotted somewhat recently:
Photo from my phone, sorry if its not the best.
I soaked the plant maybe 15 minutes before working the root mass out of the pot, which only took another 2 minutes. In removing the plant from the pot, I only lost 1 tiny root tip. I worked the old bark (3 + years old) out of the root mass. There were only a small handful of dead roots. The roots you see are all living, and the root mass can stand up mostly on its own, without the old medium to hold it up.
I live in the humid southeast USA, and recognize that these pots might not work well for everyone, but they do work well for me.
