That looks to have an infection of some sort. It looks fungal. Did it look like this when you bought it? Whatever it is, it's attacking the psbulbs and the new growths. If you only had it for a week, I'd take it back for a replacement.

It kinda looks like it might have gotten too much sun....

Brookn, there's another thread with the same plant. http://www.orchidgeeks.com/forum/gen...epot-when.html I wouldn't think too much sun would make it mushy,,,would it?

Well, think about it this way. Burn opens pathways to ?, lowers the immunity etc. The color of the leaves and new growths is what I am going by. The pbulb is probably collateral damage, new growths are very sensitive. The more I look, the more I think burn.

Hee hee you crack me up. That is why burn units are kept so sterile, infection sets in easily. I know it's the same with orchids. Sassi have you had this in high light?

I know that's why I stated "Eeeewwww." It was the first thing I thought of was the burn units and an episode of ER that I watched long time ago. LOL. OOOO eeeee ooooo! One of those creepy moments. LOL

No, I haven't had it in high sun or any sun for that matter. It's a loooong drive to take it back, so should I attempt to keep it or take it back?

I mentioned in your other thread that this is not uncommon on Oncidium. Black Rot (Phythion fungus) is more a problem with Cattleya than Oncidium alliance. This plant has three new growths. If the one on the right is the one you are concerned about, the leaves will probably lift right off the plant by now. If all three new growths are soft then I would worry. It is possible that the plant just can not support three new growths and is discarding one.

Personally...I'd take it back and get a healthy plant. If I'm paying full retail for a orchid I don't want to start w/something that looks like I got it off the "clearance" table. |

Ok, well 3hrs. driving and success!! When I got there she just pulled two of the three new growths right off and she did give me a new one and another plant for the trouble of coming all that way and she couldn't say sorry enough times. So here's a couple pictures of what she gave me besides the replacement. Is it by chance a tolumnia?

She just said it was from overwatering and pulled them both off and will probably just resell it, she didn't think it was rot or a virus of any kind.

Glad it worked out for you. I don't know if I would have drove 3 hours. Yikes!!! Well, now you have healthy plants to start off with instead of a sick one. Good thing she was so willing to exchange it for you. It's a pretty orange colored reed orchid.
