Question Help please!

I have 5 phalaneopsis which have done splendidly in a north facing window; the oldest has been constantly in bloom or bud for over 2 years. They sit on a glass table, and yesterday I noticed stickiness on the table. Closer inspection revealed small brown circles on two of the plants -- most but not all were on the underside -- along the leaf edge. I immediately cleaned everything up -- and treated all 5 plants with a soap mixture. I rinsed thoroughly after every treatment and wiped each leaf down afterwards -- changing cloth for every plant. I rechecked the infected plants today and removed another couple of brown spots. Otherwise the plants all appear very healthy. The two infected have recently developed new leaves; all are looking splendid after their treatment yesterday.

Can anyone tell me what I have? Have I done the right thing in terms of treatment? How often do I want to treat? Any suggestions will be most greatfully received.

poissonnoir,
can you post a pic of it?
Maybe it is nothing so serious, since the rest of the plant looks nice!
Wait for more news...

Sounds like Scale

I'm a newbie to having Orchids in my home, but from my 6 years working in a Greenhouse/Floral Shop it sounds like it's scale to me. The best way to treat is to do exactly what you did and keep a close eye on it for a week and check it again the following week. We usually recommend an Insecticidal Soap or Oil to treat, but what you used sounds fine. Hope this helps!
