Question ID the bug

When I got home from work, I did a checkup on my orchids (all phals) as usual. Today I saw a very little (2-3mm) brownish bug on one of the aireal roots. I kept looking at it, though then the bug decided to jump :x Jumped right on my trousers, tried to 'catch' it but squished it instead :x Didn't see any others.

From the looks of it, it could be an aphid but the color isn't right nor the body build, head is visibly more 'seperated' from the body, looked like it had scales on it's body.

Any idea's?

Greetz

You can't just squish fleas. A picture would sure help, but I guess it's too late for that!

A good bug is a dead bug. (I swear everytime I talk about bugs my hair stands on end! AAAAggghh!)

Just break out your favorite bug killer so it don't happen again.

too late for a photo idd, been searching on net all evening, didn't find anything that looked quite like it.

After I gave that up, I stared at my orchids some more, nothing to see. Which bugspray do you guys recommand? Never ever saw or had a bug on my orchids

I use Provado Plus from Bayer. Lisianne in Wevelgem recommended it and it's very efficient. You can find in any garden center. I got it from Aveve.

Could be springtail. They have sort of a flea like appearance and they like to jump. You can google springtail and find lots of pics of the various little buggers.

If you have springtail and you only have a few...it's nothing to worry about. They are everywhere and they are actually a sign of a healthy eco-system. However, if they get out of control (especially in orchids or other houseplants) they can begin to feed on roots. Again...that's only if they get out of control.

Katrina,

That's it I found pictures that looked exactly like the one I had on my orchid Did not spot any others for the moment. I'll take that as a good sign

Excellent! Glad I could help id the little bugger. I have them in very small numbers too (all plants). Just a few here and there...you have nothing to worry about.
