Yellow spot--virus? I have read that the best indicator of it being a virus is that the blemish goes all the way through the leaf, and you can see it on the other side. I think Solay had a cat. she acidentally damaged with neem oil that looked pretty similar to that, I wish I could be of more help to you. If I were you, I would isolate it, treat it with whatever you have got, and take new pics of the damage every week to see if it is getting worse, or staying the same.

How long have you had this plant? How fast did this show up?

Missann that was not me. I think it was maybe Brooke??? Not sure now. I've only used neen oil on my Cyms. and they don't mind it a bit since they are so hardy.

I've read too that it could be from lack of minerals that causes chlorosis. Then again I get some yellow spots on my Cym. leaves when they get infected with scales and when you wipe off the scales, there's the spots. Although I don't think that's what's going on with your Phal.

Hopefully someone with more experience will come a long to advise you. Sorry I couldn't answer your question.

It was me and Cynthia. I have given up on neem entirely for my orchids. It could possibly be from a pesticide. I have a Phal that decided to grow 2 leaves at one time, and the leaves got stuck and popped out of the side of the crown, and when I finally released them (the consensus had been it was a spike), they ripped through the side of the crown, and are forming a new crown (strange I know). Anywho, the biggest leaf of this newly formed crown is coming with spots similar to yours, only they are more whitish. They do not go all the way through though. I am chalking it up to being stuck, and/or water/pesticide getting in there, as I did treat this one with Bayer advanced for some centipedes that arrived with it. My other thought is sometimes these things happen, and I would not necessarily start freaking out about virus. If you really want to checking for virus is relatively inexpensive, but I personally wouldn't worry about. I would water and repot it separately from everyone elso though just to be safe.

When I first started with orchids, I got a beautiful Cattleya that had those markings. As time went on.... scale showed up! I believe that the place where I bought it, had treated the scale temporarily, so all that was left were the yellow marks on the top of the leaf. The scale was on the undersides sucking out the juices! Yuk! Make sure the underside of the leaves don't have any tiny speck in the middle of the yellow patch. I'm not saying that this is what the problem is, just what it could be.

Looks like scale to me - most likely guess - but could be some other sucking insect. Phals, especially hybrid phals, seem especially susceptible to mealybugs. As Patticake says, check the undersides of the leaves carefully. If there is not an active infestation, then there's no problem but the yellow marks will stay for the life of the leaf.

I didn't think Phals got scales. I guess cause I've never seen it on Phals before. So I'm guessing scales then. Looks just like my Cyms. that have scale damage and yup, it never goes away.
