| spider bad? I just found what I would call a "zebra spider" its black and white short legs (kinda cute) kinda fuzzy, If I see him again I will take a pic, I didn't kill him because I thought he might be good, but if not, please let me know. Last edited by iandaniel; 06-21-2008 at 06:02 PM. |

| Hi Jandaniel. In Aussie land we have the famous red back. ( they hide everywere, waiting to bite you!) Been biten twice so far in my life time and would not like to be bitten again. So around my home and yard a dead spider is the good spider. Maybe I am phobic but that is me. In the bush they can live in peace. Cheerio Ron |

| If it is a spider, you don't need to worry about him munching orchids, they only eat other little creatures. Of the ones that I know are harmful to humans, i don't recall any black and white ones. I wonder if it is a jumping spider, they have short legs, and are kinda cute |

| The wolf spiders in my basement actually jump at my cats; the cats are afraid of them, lol. The black and yellow garden spiders spin giant webs that catch my beautiful hummingbirds...And I think we have some of the black and white, short-legged ones that Iandaniel was talking about--try as I might I can't find anything cute about them. You can have all of mine! Please, take them...The closest I ever came to finding one "interesting" (NOT CUTE)

| I just thought I would add two coppers worth for the arachnophobes out there that might be of interest. It is a fact that the total world population of spiders annually capture and eat insects to a weight greater than the weight of the total human population on the globe. Without the spiders it might be difficult to take a walk outside the house; you may not even be able to open the door!! The spider in question is Salticus scenicus, a Zebra jumping spider, harmless to both humans and orchids. Bill |

Any spiders that are in the garden I leave be. That includes my orchids. Since the wife doesn't like the webs in the house I am afraid that their life span inside is a little on the short side. |

What a beauty. The land were will built our house on about 20 years ago was infested with funnel web spiders Now they are a challange. Wife found one in the laundry tub just after we moved in. afraid he was preserved in a bottle of metho Cheerio Ron |

| Ron, you are refering to the one arachnid that I dearly would like to inspect; always providing it was in a jar with the lid on. Atrax robustus, which is known as the Sidney funnel web spider. Challenge is hardly the word if you had to clear the ground for your house as robustus is considered to be one of the world's deadliest spiders. I am thinking should I attach a pic. but it might upset the readers. The reason for the pic. is that the abdomen is an unusual colour; I believe it is normally black. However please let me know if you have seen this. ( I will chance the pic.) Courtesy of Photographers Direct Bill |
