Are you certain the culprits are mice? Mouse traps should take care of it.

I've put out poisons since I saw a mouse one day run past my Cyms. Now I think it may be mice chewing on my bulbs. I found one dying mouse yesterday and my husband put it out of its' misery with a broom stick. Gross!!!

I tried a Havahart trap that cost $50 and repellents for $25. They didn't do a thing. I kept finding bulbs all chewed up. Poisons seem to be working for me. I guess traps will work too.

WOW- I have been so envious of those of you that can grow outside.....I'm not anymore!!! I love mice, and all little creatures, as long as they're not screwing with my plants!!! I think little chipmunks are so cute! A friend said that chipmunks destroy her pool lining every year.

I hope things work out for you.- We use "safe traps" at work when the little critters start destroying plant life. I let them go in the woods- Down the road a bit. I can't kill them!!!

Patti, I almost cried when the poor mouse was lying there bleeding out of his nose and was laboring with breathing. Then I put a piece of plastic on it and tried to stomp on it. Then it was still moving so my husband whacked it with a broom. I felt really bad. I was almost in tears cause I thought it may have suffered. My husband tried to make me feel better by saying they carry diseases and caused the plague. I tried everything else first but they are persistent and have eaten at least 25 bulbs.

I have been told if you spray your plants with some of the "red pepper" sprays that mammals will not eat them (too hot for their taste I guess). I have not personally tried it.

i finally caught the little guy that had been scampering across my bedroom ceiling--got the trap in the right place. peanut butter as bait. (of course, low salt/low sugar pb--maybe that's why it took so long. )

good luck...

Jerry, I tried that and it didn't work too well since I had too many Cyms. in the yard. I would miss some. maybe if you just have a few plants to spray.
Orchidmentia, look at the cute little guys. I really do think mice are cute. I had a white one as a pet in grade school and back in Burma when I was really young, I use to play with the baby mice I find in basement. All pink and hairless.

Janet and Maria, where there's one, there are more. Must keep up the traps and poisons. I hate it but I have no choice. Must kill!

Solay, I am glad you had tried this because now I won't have to!! It sounded kind of logical. Evidently, the mice never took a course in logic!! And remember, it may be the early bird who gets the worm, but it is the second mouse that gets the cheese.

How strange to read this again, tonight. I was just watching the news less than 1/2 hour ago and a home in Lake Worth has been infested with mice, rats and roaches. The entire community is outraged (obviously) by the filthy conditions of this one homeowner who is causing this. Originally, she refused to let the exterminators in who were ordered there by the city to exterminate the entire property inside and outside. In the alternative, she would have been served a warrant, therefore, finally consented to the cleanup but anyway.......do you happen to live in the Lake Worth area?

Things have to be pretty awful in that home that is infested with mice, rats and roaches. I work for Child Protective Services and have seen some amazingly disgusting homes... but nothing like that. Ewwwww!

Solay, I'm glad you found what was eating your orchids. Desperate times call for desperate measures... I understand putting poison out.

Hy Sandra, I saw it in the news to, sunday night they did the most damage, I put out traps and I am telling you this guys are smart they did not touch the traps, so went back to H/D and bought these little green squares,(poison) well that was monday night, tuesday morning the traps were there, but no bait all squares were gone. So I hope they are in rodent haven. You know, we save money to buy our precious orchids, and to have some rodent destroy them, I am sorry, but to hell with them.

Well the best ratters and mousers are not cats it's the terriers. Get a jack Russell and you will be pest free........ of course then you will need a great Dane to get rid of the Russell....... then you will need a lion to get rid of the Dane.......then you will need an elephant to get rid of the lion....... then you will need a mouse to get rid of the elephant..... Never mind

Joe, You're too funny!
I don't have any solutions. We had mice many years ago in my house. We set cute little safe traps and then let them go. I don't have a situation like yours!
How about the "ORKIN" man
