I am not entirely sure, but it looks like sunburn. I would wait until someone else agrees or disagrees though. It may have had some water on the leaves when the sun was on it. That would intensify the sun and accelerate the burn.

Oh yeah, sunburn. It looks like you need to clean the crown with some hydrogen peroxide also.

Since this is the second case of sunburn in just a few days, I would also like to caution everyone as spring approaches to let your plants acclimate slowly when putting them outside. Also even if there is no direct light on them, if the leaves are wet, dry them as the light definitely magnifies and will burn them.

What is ironic is that I put them in shade because I left town for a week. Maybe my caregivers placed it in the sun or something. My Phals are always in the shaded area in my backyard.

Oh well...thank you guys so much for the quick replies at least it isn't anything too serious. Brookn, thanks for the heads up!

I got sunburn on two or three of my phals last year. Brookn's advice is right on target because I am still waiting for those leaves (unfortunately, not the bottom leaves) to fall off. You can still have blooms, but the plant is very sad looking

At least it is not a major problem, FlaCo...

Something else to think about as the seasons change ( at least here in Colorado )... the angle of the sun is changing daily. What was once a shady spot in my atrium is now in direct sun - and vice versa.
