Should I be concerned?

I have a large specimen Oncidium maculatum that is in bloom. I have noticed a few areas of clear sticky fluid on both the leaves and the flower spike. They look like drops of clinging water but are very sticky when touched/removed. I see no bugs of any kind on the plant, but have removed it to another location until I figure out what is going on and what to do about it. Any help/ideas appreciated.

Thanks,

Cathy

Sap Its been a popular question recently! I asked the same question Here's the thread I started (there are lots of others though on the same question). It may help you out. But yes it's sap and it shouldn't be a cause for concern.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I asked the same question when I started out. Now, I look forward to those little droplets forming.

Yep Fairly normal but you want to make sure. Insects such as mealy bugs and scale secrete a very similar substance called honey dew. Also Check very closely for spider mites, I sometimes get them along with this sap.

Probably just normal though (they are sweet to the taste too). We love specimen plants if you have any photos you could post!
