Unhappy can you help me with my sick phal?

Hello,

i'm from belgium and new on this forum. I would like your help on my sick phal. I'm worried about losing them and infecting my other plants.
The first one (1a & 1b) has soft, slack leaves with brown/yellow in the middle and greyish spots. The branch has the same discolouring.
The second one has also a soft leave with one large brown spot.
The third one has soft, wrinkled leaves, turning yellow.

I hope somebody can help me and give me some tips to make them healthy again.

thanks in advance!

Lieve

Welcome Lieve you will find a lot of information here. Your Phals look to be dehydrated to me. Phals like to be kept slightly moist.

Welcome to the forum Lieve. If you would be so kind as to go User CP on the tool bar
and update your location, this would be helpful in future posts. If you indeed have a
mite infestation, take a magnifying glass and look under the leaves. You should be able
to see movement along fine threads of webbing. As Digitalgate suggested, go to the
section on mite control.

First thing you may want to do is check the roots of your plants, odds are you will find that your roots are in bad shape. That will cause the problems with the leaves if this is the cause you will need to cut the soft roots. At the same time you can check the leaves for mites but i dont thik thats the problem.

Definitely mites on the first one. Make sure it is separated from your other plants, and treat with a miticide. Limp leaves can be caused by too little water or too much water - check the roots. Good luck!

I agree with all the above, especially checking the roots. Your leaves look dehydrated, but sometimes no amount of water will help because there are no roots to absorb the water. You want round and green, not black and soft. Once a leaf has begun to fade there is no bringing it back to health; you will have to take good care of the orchid (first finding out what is wrong) and hope for new leaves.

i am not too sure about mites , but it looked like one.. hopefully it is just mold growing on the
leaf.. photo 3 and 4 can be sunburn , can also be mites bite mark.. use a Jeweler's magnify
glass to see.

For mites, use the jewelers loupe on the underside of the leaf, that is where mites live.

The last two pics are similar to my situation two months ago. My phal ended up losing that leaves that look like in your pic. However, it managed to grow healthy and the new leaf.

I observed what happen last time to my phal was first, I put them with I think too much light exposure for them and second lack of air movement. I dont think becasue of lack of water because I always check the moisturity of the media.

I moved that phal to a lil bit less intensity of light (in my case I just put it behind the other plant so it still had some light but less intense), and when I watered it, I put a lil bit fertilizer. It has been 2 months now and it grow 3 more leaves (can you believe this??? 3 in one shot). I will post the picture of you shortly.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the warm welcome and all of your advice.

I searched for mites using a jewelers loup, but couldn't find any. I did give al of my phals a nice bath, 'cause I think they might have been to dry. After a few days I allready see a change. The leaves are much healthier. I thought I was giving them te right care, but seems like I have still a few things to learn.

Now I now I can find answers and advice on this forum

thanx a lot!

Lieve

Good luck and happy growing Lieve!!!

My husband and I went to Belgium a few years ago on a stop over to Paris and it turned out to be one of our favorite places. We spent two days in Brugge and found it delightful, even though it rained A LOT!!! The old castles and cobble stone streets are something we have very little of over here in the states. Wonderful!!!

in that case it is mold that growing on your plant. Use a fan to prevent any
mold growing.
