Orthene safety

I live in Tampa and keep about 20 pots, mostly Dens and Phals, outdoors except when they are in bloom. When they are outside and bugs are spotted, I spray the plants with Orthene. I have become concerned about the safety of displaying plants in bloom inside the house when they have previously been treated with Orthene. Any advice?

Well as with all pesticides, it is toxic to animals and fish. I take it you are using the powder? It should be fine if the plants are sitting out for awhile. I don't recommend dusting and bringing them inside as soon as you are finished dusting. This is a known carcinogen (cancer causing) in rats and toxic in numerous animals as listed in the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) If you have serious doubts, stop use and find something a little more friendly. A lot of us here on the forum use Wormtea as our first defense.

I don't want to scare you so please don't feel that way. Most pesticides have this information on them and also can be found in the MSDS. Proper use and precautions is a must
