Phal leaf turning pale at base

The newest leaf (fully grown for a couple of months) seems to me to be getting pale at the base. The leave itself is a nice, full green, like romaine, but the base is drifting closer to endive. I don't like the looks of it, although everything else about it seems fine (new roots going into the medium and into the air, medium fresh from repotting this spring, etc.) I poured cinnamon on it, because I thought it would do no harm, at least, but I wonder whether I should be doing something else.

That is a natural phenomenon for some phalaenopsis, especially some pink varieties. In some, that "tinge" can be caused by too much sunlight-a reaction by the plant signaling it's reached its limit for light intensity. In Vandas, a tinge that color usually means magnesium deficiency. I'd review the phalaenopsis culture sheet, make sure you have it in the appropriate light and make sure that your fertilizer has appropriate micronutrients.

Thank you. Lately, the fertilizer has been worm tea. Too bright light could be the culprit. I'll hope it's nothing nefarious. -- Bill
