small holes in leaves

My ludisia discolor has small holes in its leaves. Not all over, but like one hole in each leaf, about 3mm in size (thereabouts). I think it might be spider mite? I washed off the leaves with warm water (actually the whole plant) and thought I had the problem licked. However, I have a new leaf on the plant!!! which makes me happy, but it seems to be getting a small hole in it as well. Any very specific information anyone can share?

Bec

Justed check the plant again -- there's one small hole on one leaf (less than 3mm actually). The new leaf has a "something" on it -- a thin area that looks like it might become a hole, maybe?

Perhaps it's not a bug?

-scratching head-

can you post a pic?

and what kind of light do you have it in? mine will tolerate *no* direct sun; the leaves turn orange and spongy.

i'm wondering if it's some kind of disease? is the rest of the leaf healthy around the hole?

Sounds like snails/slugs. If they are tiny holes, it is probably a bush snail. They are about an 1/8th inch in diameter fully grown. If you are growing plants in bark, the bush snails live in the holes between the bark. I use diatomaceous earth (DE) from a pool supply dusted everywhere the snails are likely to travel, and the sharp edges of the particles cuts up the snail treads, and the animals ooze to death. It works on other crawling hardbodied insects as well. Some people use left over coffee to kill snails, but since I have never done this, I can't give any advice on it. The DE must not be inhaled or silicosas like damage will occur. Once the stuff has settled though, it is safe for people and pets. Cynthia, Prescott, AZ
