Cygon boosts flower production?

While visiting with Katherine and H.P. Norton (google thier names with the word orchid if you aren't familiar with their work) this weekend my friend and I heard two very contradictory statements.

My partner thought they said that "babtising" in cygon to rid pests increases the following bloom season significantly.
I thought they said just the opposite... that it would negatively impact the following seasons blooms.

While I try to alternate between Cygon and Bayer Rose and Flower systemic I have not noticed any difference in bloom production. Does anyone have any experience with this phenom or know any science that would back up either occurrence?

Thought I'd check my old copy of 'The Orchid Doctor', a 1980 compendium of literature references to various things orchid related. There is a comment on being injurious to buds (phytotoxic), and that it consistantly does damage to Den moschatum, Den puchellum, and others. I seem to recall it was deadly to mule ear Oncidium leaves. I think I'd stick with the Rose & Flower. A friend with a larger very highly mixed collection than I have has reported no damage what so ever with imidaclorprid, and I have used it used it once on my entire collection (~1000 plants) with also no appearent damage.
