FRED!

Put your glasses on, I can see it.

Generally the little ones are the baddies, I am not sure what that one is as I live in Australia, but to me, it looks like it may be a predator looking for some sushi.

Cynthia may be able to shed some light on what it is.

Sorry folks, I have never seem one of these before, well, at least not on my orchids. And bugs on any other plant don't get a second glance. Is this an outdoor grower? If outdoors, I'd ignore it for now. If indoors, I'd remove it, then keep an eye open for more. Now that is what I'd do with no further info, but someone may come on that recognizes your bug. OR, call your local county agricultural extension, and ask if you can email them a picture to find out if it is a carnivore or a vegetarian.

Although I can't see the bug properly, and I have no idea of the size, I am going to stick my neck out. I think it is a mosquito; it has the typical look of one of those bl%%$y things that plagued me for years in various corners of the globe. The worst I ever had the displeasure of meeting was in Cold Lake, Alberta. Things with a six inch spike that was inserted into any area of uncovered flesh. Sorry folks, just got carried away. But I stand on my opinion until proven otherwise.

Bill

it does look something like a mosquito. I would say, if it's just a single insect, then it could just be passing by and investigating. (I'd stop and investigate a psychopsis bloom too). No harm. However, if there are several or more and they won't leave the plant or bloom alone, then it's time for action.

Bug

Hi,
I contacted my bug expert and she has ID'd your bug. It is a Damsal Bug. It is a predator & lays its eggs in aphis etc. Its a good bug. don't kill it. If it bothers you catch it & release it in your garden.

I think most predator bugs have chewing mouth parts , not sucking mouthparts...this kinda looks like a bug that sucks out juices from plants.. better be safe than sorry..
