Biological control

At the institute that I work at we have found that biological control is the best way of controlling pests; unfortunately it costs about 4 to 5 times more to implement than chemicals. What do you go for environmental friendly or cost efficient?

With orchids growing in my living room and kitchen area I tend to go with the "environmental friendly" method. For instance, I use a insecticidal soap spray for warding of Fungus Gnats that hover around the bark of some of my potted orchids. You simply need to make several applications for it to be completely effective. And homemade insecticidal soap is dirt cheap!

I would say that i'm a natural sort of person and would therefore prefer to use the biological control however I can definitely see the reasons for using the chemical bug control methods.

Personally I hate using chemicals on plants, like james said it seems very unnatural. It is something that has to be done though, I have to just get over it and get on with it.
