Is this bud blast in a paphiopedilum?

Hello!

Last year I purchased a healthy paphiopedilum Satin Veil from a grower in Seattle. Plant is still healthy and robust, 4 growths, lush lime green leaves.

My problem is, I'm still waiting for a spike! There are one or two spike remnants, so I know the plant has bloomed before. I've gotten two or three of these little flat brown (dead) growths deep in the plant...is this a leaf that aborts or is it bud blast?

I can't figure it out. I am growing this plant in an East window in moss. I use filtered rain water and feed weeakly with Schultz orchid food. Root system looks good.

I'd love to see this plant bloom!

cheers,
Neo

I have my first paph (lynnleigh koopowitz) so I am no expert and need to keep asking questions at my OS. Do you add lime/oyster shell? At our OS, they all add lime around the first of Jan and say the spikes always seem to follow. Delenatii seems to be the exception. My paph is partly this so I added oyster shell as I think mine won't care. I hope a paph expert will help.

Its really hard to tell exactly what that is by the angle of the shot in this pic.
Are you making sure there's no water trapped in the leaf crevaces by night fall when the temps dip at night? That will kill new growths of leaves and buds. I mad that mistake before. Got to make sure dry by night fall.
Paphs only bloom +ne time per each fan or growth of leaves. So if that's a bud that blasted at that stage you will have to wait for a new growth of a new fan of leaves to get a chance for a new spike.
Can we get a better angle shot of that area and a bit more zoomed in please.

Check out the Antech web site for paph care. I googled Antech and calcium and found it. I give my little paph a south-facing window behind the other orchids. I've also heard that they can be fussy about getting water in the middle, just like a phal. Our society members all grow paphs, and are always seeming to be showing them off and I finally just had to get one. I wish you luck with yours, NJ.

Hi, plant looks well grown, a photo of the whole plant would help check it maturity size, quiet often Paph will try to flower on inmature growths and abort.
Yours looks like an aborted flower to me.
