My psychopsis orchid

I am super bummed out, my psychopsis orchid finally ended up in my compost pile. The leaves were progressively going down hill. I tried everything and anything I could come up with to get some new roots going. I had several that started to grow, then when I would go to look at them a week or two later they were gone. I had a problem with what I thought were mini snails, I used a mild pesticide that has worked great on my chids before. I think it killed the roots, but you see if was a double edge sword. The dang snails were eating the new roots whenever I would find them. So I guess I could have held in there longer, but I guess I am only a fair weather chid grower LOL. I have saved, and rehabbed my share of chids, I guess this one was not in the books. I think I could grow a psychopsis if it had an established root system now with what I have learned about them. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on this plant. I will let you know when I get another one.

If you are interested in getting another one let me know. The grower I got mine from has a few.

I have always been interested in getting one of these. I think I would do well with one since they seem to be very similar in care to Onc. I love the fact they can rebloom off the same spike for years.

If it's any consolation, my first Psychopsis is still in the ICU. My second one is doing much better, though. I feel these fella's take a slight learning curve to understand and aren't very forgiving for those not quick to catch on.

Sorry to hear your Psychopsis declined let us know when you decide to try again I have one leaves are good but the tips of my new spikes (2) dried up and back to the 2nd node or ring so I'm waiting to see what they do now don't know why they did that either. The original spike is putting along just fine. So an oddity with mine there

I am odd man out. I have gotten along with these from the beginning. My first big one had one and a half spikes when I got it. The second spike had the same trouble as Emmayes. I now keep some water in a saucer under it. Since then the second spike grew a side spike and is now blooming regularly. My alba form is starting it's first spike at this time. The spike on it is about a foot long. I keep a saucer of water under it as well.

Yeah I can live with it. I have plans in my head right now for an amazing growing room. I have a spot in our basement that I think I am going to turn into a completely enclosed 10X10 grow room. Here is the link, this is not exactly what I want, but quite similar.
Dark Room II Pro 120" x 120" x 80" DRP300
This way I can control everything the way I really want/need to. I want to build a 1/2 greenhouse on top of our garage that I could grow in year round. I want to be able to sell plants and this would be a great space for it. I will probably think about getting a new psychopsis in the spring. I will look for one thats very mature, 4-6" would be ideal. Thanks for all your kind words!
