webby eggy stuff.

This little NOID vanda has been struggling with me ever since I bought it (off ebay.... ) and it has been a struggle. Now my latest issue has suddenly come up (and thank goodness has not affect my other 'chids or vandas) and I noticed it looking like I wasn't watering it enough, then brown spots and yellowing appeared. I pulled a leaf down and there was a little centipede looking creature... inside some webby stuff with what looks like tons of little brown eggs (or poop?) in there... I got rid of him and I sprayed some 3-n-1 spray in it and kept it out of the sun (cause of the oils in the spray) but it's not looking any better... What should I do?

Insecticidal soap (3 parts rubbing alcohol, 1 part water + 1 tbsp dishwashing soap OR Dr Bronner's liquid Peppermint or Tea Tree Oil soap) - wash the infested parts thoroughly as well as the rest of the plant. The eaten parts won't recover, but you want to avoid reinfestation.

I will have to mix a batch of that up... Which works better? The peppermint, soap or tea tree oil?

^^^^ good question because I have always heard about how well peppermint works on plants to get rid of bugs.

Either works well. The peppermint repels bugs and it hurts their mouths; tea tree oil helps fight any bacteria in damaged tissue. Both are soaps - Dr Bronner's Peppermint Soap and Dr Bronner's Tea Tree Oil Soap. This also kills slugs and snails when sprayed directly on them.

I think you have spider mites. To get rid of them you either purchase a very expensive miticide or you take the plant outside and spray daily to remove all newly hatched out spiders and eliminate new eggs. Be sure to spray the pot and media too.

If it is spider mites, I've been very successful at getting rid of them with the "best stuff ever". They seem to love my parlor palm.

Thank you everyone... I'm also having a issue with 'kudzu' bugs. I did a soak on them last night in the tub with the water, soap and alcohol mixture. Every time I put the vandas outside the kudzu's get all over them! They were so stinky last night I had to Febreeze the bathroom! (LOL!!) I'm gonna try to pick up some of that peppermint oil this week at CVS... Thanks everyone for your input!
