| Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Phal?
I repotted about 2 days ago due to black flies. There was some root rot that I cut off, but many many healthly roots remained. The picture is attached.

Thanks and thanks for the reply! I'm excited to start growing orchids. I've read some books, but I haven't had much real experience yet. To answer your questions: Yes and Yes. I kinda freaked out and decided to cut the leaf off. I'm hoping it was just bacterial rot. It's been raining a lot here over the last week and the humidity around the orchids has been in the mid to high 60s. I thought this was a good thing, but I think the fan I was using doesn't move enough air. I've added a fan and cut the humidifier off for now. There no new problems this morning and I'm hoping it stays that way.

What are your growing conditions like for this plant, this will help better determine what adjustments might be needed to prevent future occurences and get your plant back on track!!!

The orchids are under a 400 watt MH light. The humidity moves between 50% and 70%. The temperature can get as high as 80 in the day but is usually mid to high 70s and the low at night is around 68. I had a ceiling fan going but have since added a small fan to move air along the pots and leaves from the side.

How close to the light is the plant? Just continue to keep a close watch on it to make sure no other leaves begin to show signs of the same. If your circulation is good and temps reaonable as mentioned you should be ok, but makes it difficult to pin down what caused the issue to begin with. . . (being that you are growig indoors)

The humidity was very high for a few days and I was also spraying them down 2 - 3 times a day. Also, I was only using a ceiling fan. I really think it must have bacterial since everything seems fine now. I added the fan from the side. and have been trying to keep the humidity under 60%.

Keeping humidity up is a good thing , just adjust your watering habits accordingly and you will do well...
