Question Yellowing leaves on Onciduims?

I have what looks like an Onciduim-I rescued it from my bosses office a month or so ago, and it was out of bloom so I'm not 100%sure it is an Oncidium. But, I cut the spike and repotted it in a good orchid mix from Orchid Web. It's under lights (also from them) and has been looking good, until recently I notice there are several leaves turning yellow. The leaves aren't new ones, which is good I think, but still, is this normal? Am I overwatering it? I get differing info on how to care for Oncidiums which is worrysome to me. Phals seem to be easier, and I have 5 of them which are fine. I love the little blooms of Onciduims, and would like to suceed in having this re-bloom....

Can you post a picture? It is normal for older leaves to yellow and die as long as the yellow starts from the tip and works its way down. I have only had oncidiums for about a year so I am by no means an expert but I have found that they definately like more moisture than Phals.

Question

I don't currently have a decent camera. I have a cell phone with a camera, but it kinda sucks. I'll get some pics this weekend. Should I cut the leaves off?

If the leaves are yellowing from the tip, just let them go their coarse and they will fall off when ready. The plant will be absorbing the nutrients from the leaf back into the rest of the plant. If the yellowing is different it may call for something else. Pics will help once you get them up.

Unhappy Problem with Onciduim leaves continue...

I have more photos here of the increasing leaf problem on one of my Onciduims. I was asked what specific onc. it is, and I have absoultly no idea. This was given to me by a co-worker and it was finished blooming at the time. I had sprayed with Physan 20 several days ago, but as the photos show, things don't seem to be improving.

hi and welcome! the leaves that are yellowing look ok for the plant to lose....i am more concerned with the big fat juice sucking SCALE that i see in the second pic....get some systemic insecticide and follow the directions....you will have to spray it several times and keep up a spray routine....dont put it with your other plants....if you already have, then spray em all.....heck, spray em all anyway, it wont hurt and it might help if you have some buggies....gl

I'll agree that the yellowing leaves are probably just old and due to drop, but I'm not sure I see scale rather pieces of dried sheath... Always good to check for bugs though just to be certain.

dounoharm...perhaps your eyes are better than mine where do you see the scale?

I hadn't thought of scale-actually I thought those little 'flake things' were just dry sheath like -K- said. I bought some Organicide, it just came yesterday. Should I use that? It says one application is usually enough, but not to use it indoors. How strong is this stuff? There isn't much instrucion or info about using it, and no info about how to use it on orchids. Someone from this forum had suggested it to me. ???
