Where do you keep them during summer? It looks to me like the leaves got severely sunburned, and complicated with some sort of infection.

What was the temperature in your growing area during the winter? My bet is if the problem happened in the winter, the area is too cold. Please share more about your growing conditions.

Geeks do you think that The bad part of the leaf could be cut off and sprinkle cinnamon on the ends and tips real good and it would stop ? I have done that before and it worked . I never knew the cause but I did have them in too much sun

our winter nights is about -5 c . although they were in the house, i think the winter was really bad for them, i now have a greenhouse and next year i will insolate it with bubble wrap in the winter, and put a heater if its still to cold - do you think i can still save the plant? all my phals grow really well in summer, i had one that spiked in autum but when the temps dropped the spikes stopped growing and it never flowered

If the plants are subjected to temperatures below about 15 C, and are kept too moist , that will stress them and allow secondary infections to set in. Phals are warm-growing plants, and though they can survive colder temperatures, they will not thrive. What were the temperatures where they were growing in the winter (not outside temps, actually where the plants are located)? Please let us know your watering and fertilizing regimen, and how much light they receive. Hopefully their new location in the greenhouse will meet their needs year-round. Just try to avoid cold, damp conditions.
