Physan 20 in Canada

Have any Canadians been able to order Physan 20 online from the States and have it shipped successfully? I've been looking at some on some orchid selling websites and ebay but I don't wan't it to get stopped in customs. Any experience? How about worm tea?

I am going to chime in here as well. I don't know the answer, but I would love to know as I also have been wanting to get some Physan 20.

I'll ask Medelia.
She has some and I've been using hers for a while! LOL!
I'm sure she'll be happy to chime in when warned... Just beware the wait I won't see her until tomorrow night!

Well, I remember ordering it from repotme.com and having no trouble at all with the customs or anything of the sort.
The only downside was the shipping cost. It was around 50$ for a bottle a physan 20 and a small bag of potting medium.
But I don't regret my puchases one bit!

Hope that helps!

Have any of you checked out the vendors in your area ?
Try this link and click on supplies and vendors. Then up top click on your country. Then a list of vendors alphabetically should come up of vendors. An orchid vendor my carry it in their other area of supplies etc. Hers a link.

I cannot imagine The shipping cost being that high!

When I ship to Canada, I usually use the USPS Priority Mail service. A bottle of Physan and a 5L bag of potting medium will fit in a Medium Flat-Rate box, so should run about half of that.

Another thing to consider, depending upon where you are in Canada: There is a well-established "cottage industry" all along the border in the US that does shipping and receiving. I cannot tell you how many of my Canadian customers have packages shipped to them at one of those, saving a bundle. That medium flat rate box, when shipped to a US address, costs only $11. They pick it up an take it home.

The specific problem with Physan (and many other chemical products) is that it is not registered for use in Canada, so distributors cannot get it in for resale.

Physan is an algaecide of ammonium salts. Many US growers use pool supply algaecide of ammonium salts since it is easy to get and cheap.

Commercial Physan is 40% ammonium salts and the pool supply can vary in strength rom 10-50% so check the label and dilute accordingly.

That said I think Physan is one of the most useless treatments for orchids. I only use it to wash my potting mediums and I do not know if that really does much more than clean the sawdust off the medium.

Good to know about the Physan. I hear so many people mention it. It's good to hear some people can maintain their orchids with out it!
