Dendrobium Help Requested

Hi all,

The cold may be the biggest problem I currently face here in New Jersey, where I keep my greenhouse at about 60 degrees. Surprisingly, my phals, which I think generally require warmer temperatures than other orchids, are thriving. The rest of my orchids are not. My dendrobiums have leaves which look fine on the tops, but the backs are a milky, mottled white, with some brown spots. Can anyone help diagnose?

Not to ask for too much here, but also my one Vanda has these brown diamond shaped spots on the leaves. I bought the Vanda in Florida, where I wish I were living right now, last spring and it has yet to bloom.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think we will need pictures on these, and pile on the questions, no problem there, but word descriptions don't work too well.

Thanks, Cynthia.

I don't know how to upload photos, but will learn.

In the meantime, the fan in my greenhouse heater died last Tuesday, so I don't know what I'll have pictures of. Rescued what I could, but the conditions in our house are very different from those once existing in the greenhouse.

While I was out looking for an alternative heat source, a snowplow rammed me on the driver's side -- in which I was seated. It was a great week.

;-(

Oh, my goodness, it's a miracle that you're okay. That you must look on as a blessing.

Thanks, Orchid.

Yes, it's a miracle, on which I try to focus, but the loss of my greenhouse in this horrible New Jersey frozen tundra is almost as traumatic as the car accident.

Think spring!
