diseased Cattleya

Hello,
Does my plant look virused and if so, what do you suggest I do? If not, what do you think the problem is and how should I treat it?

I would appreciate your advice,
Vicki

It doesn't look virused to me but I am not an expert in this. My catts sometimes get that blotchy look and then when I adjust the light or fertilizer they will change gradually.

It doesn't look like a virus to me. I agree with digitalgate that it looks like a nutrient deficiency of some kind.

Hi Nancy,
I did have a sunburn problem this last Spring. I failed to put my greenhouse shadecloth up as soon as I should have and a few plants were burned, but none seriously. This was one of the plants sitting in the hottest section of one of my benches. I'm still learning, so I sure won't wait too long next yr.!

Thanks for your reply and help,
Vicki

Hi,
I sure am relieved that it doesn't look like a virus to you, needless to say. After I use the epsom salt that he advised, I'm gonna look further into the fertilizer that I've been using.
Thank you for your reply and advice!
Vicki

I dont think this has disease, definetly uneven sunlight, may be mineral needs are not being met.

Hi Emmaye,
I guess I thought that I would figure out simply how to mix the epsom salt when I bought it (seems really stupid of me now that I think about it). I'm gonna contact digitalgate and ask him, since he's the one who advised using it. I plan to buy groceries later today, so if they have it, I'll bring it home and give it a go on my orchid. If they don't, of course I'll try to pick up some somewhere else.
Thanks for your reply,
Vicki

Vicki

Thanks, I'm gonna buy some epsom salt later today and do as digitalgate advised, then later re-evaluate my fertilizer.

Use the epsom salts at the rate of one tablespoon to a gallon, once a month. It can be mixed with your regular fertilizer. Another product good for leaves is Dyna-Gro Protekt. Use that according to the directions once a month also.

You have some nice sheaths there.

I've seen Dyna-Gro Protekt offered on sites, but I've never taken the time to read about it. Since you told me, I'm gonna order some. I didn't even know it was for leaves

I sure hope the sheaths have something under them.
Thanks,
Vicki
